In April of 2007, Canine Caviar voluntarily recalled less than 1500 cans of turkey and beaver due to a labeling issue. We were not part of the melamine recall. This unexpected situation was due to the fact that American Nutrition was adding ingredients that were not authorized by Canine Caviar.

None of canine caviar’s dry foods, treats or supplements have ever been recalled or pulled off the shelves.

We apologize and have taken steps to increase quality control to ensure this does not happen again, we now receive production records from all or our co-packers for all of our formulas before they are shipped to us.

Our highest priority is providing your pets consistently safe, superior-quality holistic / organic food, treats and supplements for your dogs and cats. We procure ingredients only from qualified suppliers, many of whom we have worked with for over a decade. Canine / Feline Caviar’s finished products go through additional testing to ensure high quality and compliance to safety standards. Any product that does not meet our strict performance requirements will not be sold. Our Active Management to Manufacturing Policy maintains the strictest standards of food and exceeds FDA and AAFCO standards for pet food. Samples of every batch of Canine / Feline Caviar’s pet foods, treats and supplements are tested both in house and by third party companies. Testing validates that products conform to specifications, formulas, and design.

Our Quality Assurance program does not only encompass our manufacturing operation and final product inspection, but starts from the time we select the finest and freshest ingredients, making absolutely sure Canine / Feline Caviar products continue to be healthy and safe for your dog or cat. At every stage of every process, Canine / Feline Caviar controls quality with our active management of manufacturing policies. We develop our own unique product formulas. Select premium, human-grade ingredients through detailed sourcing and nutritional analysis. Conduct comprehensive audits of our procedures. We visit each plant regularly to make sure each and every product is the absolute best.

Ingredients

Because we care about pets, and know that every Canine / Feline Caviar product must start with the best ingredients, we require our suppliers to prove that their ingredients are free of contaminants and meet our standards. Suppliers and co-manufacturers must document the source and country of origin of all raw materials purchased for use in Canine / Feline Caviar’s pet foods. To assure our ingredient selection process is effective, we continuously perform rigorous testing and validation.
The chicken included in our formulas are all hormone and steroid free and contain human grade chicken fed on real feed with no waste included. The lamb & venison included in our formulas come from New Zealand and are all hormone and steroid free and contain human grade chicken fed on real feed with no waste included. Fish, fats and oils are purchased from suppliers that are USDA/APHIS/NMFS/EU approved.

Manufacturing

Because Canine / Feline Caviar promises superior quality, we go above and beyond what is expected in the pet food industry and require all of our facilities to adhere to these standards. These stringent quality criteria include strict protocols such as cleaning equipment between every product run. Processing equipment is closely monitored to ensure that systems and settings are running in control and without failure. Particle sizes are checked for proper ingredient grinding. Product attributes such as density, expansion, and moisture are checked and reviewed during production. Our exacting quality standards will always ensure each Canine / Feline Caviar product your pet enjoys will be the best you can buy. Continuous quality checks are performed throughout the entire manufacturing process to help ensure the purity of our food and treats.
Our facility also has regular inspections by the USDA and APHIS. The plant is a member of the Pet Food Institute and as such is continuously updated on all regulation changes and is notified immediately of any outbreaks which would affect production so that any precautions or stoppages could be made.

Testing

We conduct both in-house and independent tests for microbiological safety and toxin screening, including independent lab tests for melamine, Cyanuric Acid, Aflatoxin, and DON (Vomitoxin). We take samples from each date code of Canine / Feline Caviar product and subjected them to our testing protocol.
